Universal testing machines equipped with peel fixtures measure the bond strength between films, packaging materials, laminated surface coatings, and other bonded structures. A peel test setup may include tensile grips or specialized peel fixturing. The list below includes peel test fixtures conforming to common ASTM, ISO, EN, DIN test methods. Contact us to discuss your testing needs and we’ll help you find the right peel fixturing for your application.

ASTM D6252 Peel Adhesion Testing of Pressure-Sensitive Labels at a 90 degree Angle

FS-PL-90 90 Degree Peel Fixture

Test Standards: ASTM B571 | ASTM D2861 | ASTM D3330 | ASTM D6252 | ASTM D6862 | DIN EN1939 | EN28510 | ISO 8510-1

Principles of Operation: Used to measure peel strength, FS-PL-90 features a sliding table that provides steady movement while maintaining a constant peel angle and a wire that pulls the specimen-mounted sliding table laterally. One end of the peel sample is clamped to a top grip (manual vise grip recommended) while the other end is secured on the FS-PL sliding table. The 90-degree peel test is run in the tensile direction. The force measured is the peel, or bond, strength between two surfaces.

180 degree peel fixture

FS-PL-180 180 Degree Peel Fixture

Test Standards: DIN EN1939

Principles of Operation: The FS-PL-180 comes with two platens; steel or glass. The specimen is peeled away from the substrate at a 180° angle, the line of separation being perpendicular to the direction of the applied force. The adhesive strength is measured by the force required to peel the adhesive tape continuously from the plate.

FS-PL-ADJ Adjustable Angle Peel Fixture

Test Standards: ASTM B571 | ASTM D2861

Principles of Operation: FS-PL-ADJ design features the similar sliding table as the FS-PL-90, however the adjustable angle offers a peel angle of ±30° for peel testing applications that require a variable peel angle. Different options such as wider width is available. Full test setup requires a top grip installed on the machine and the same steps as in the FS-PL-90 operation can be followed to acquire peel strength results.

ASTM D1781 Climbing Drum Peel Fixture

FS-CDT-ASTM D1781 Climbing Drum Peel Fixture

Test Standards: ASTM D1781 | EN2243 | DIN53295

Principles of Operation: The climbing drum peel fixture consists of a drum assembly, flexible loading straps mounted on the bottom of the stand and a drum clamp to hold the outer skin against the face of the drum. During a test the loading straps pull on the drum assembly, forcing it to rotate and climb along the length of the Aluminum panel. This motion peels the outer skin away from the core structure. The peel force is measured by the material testing system and the peel resistance between adhesive bonds is calculated. An upper self-closing clamp is required to grip the specimen.

FS-PL-ASTM D3167 Floating Roller Peel Fixture

Test Standards: ASTM D3167 | DIN53289 | EN 1464 | ISO 4578

Principles of Operation: The floating roller peel test allows a flexible substrate to be peeled apart gently from the rigid substance. Place one end of the specimen in the roller base of the floating roller peel fixture, use a manual vise or self-tightening grip on the other end to complete the test setup. Test is run in the tensile direction. The angle of separation is effective so that the test works well for substrates that are not as flexible and are unable to be bent to a 90 degree or 180 degree angle.

ASTM D429 Method B on a Single Column Universal Testing Machine Side Angle Close up

FS-PL-ASTM D429 ASTM D429 Peel Fixture

Test Standards: ASTM D429 | DIN53531 | DIN ISO 813 | GOST411

Principles of Operation: The adhesion test setup includes the FS-PL-ASTM D429 peel fixture with a specialized design accommodating rectangular specimens and a lower grip (manual vise grip or pneumatic vise grip) in order to determine the adhesion properties of rubber bonded to a rigid material.

Loop Tack Strength Test Fixture on a table top tensile tester

FS-LT Loop Tack Test Fixture

Test Standards: ASTM D6195 | DIN EN 1719

Principles of Operation: The FS-LT loop tack test fixture designed according to ASTM D6195 comes either with our standard eye end adapter or a rectangular shaped sword adapter. A specimen carrier plate (surface options include glass or stainless steel)  is secured on the loop tack test fixture. During testing, the tape loop must come down onto the platform and cover it so that the edges of the loop slightly overhang from the edges of the platform. The tack force, or the strength of the pressure sensitive adhesive, is measured.

Note:  A low-capacity manual vise grip is recommended to complete the test setup.
