ADMET’S custom designed dual hydraulic actuator system enables endless testing potential for sports innovation

A leading sports innovation center turned to ADMET to tackle critical design challenges. The center, pushing the boundaries of equipment performance, faced hurdles in:

  • Simulating real-world forces: Replicating the dynamic stresses on components like handlebars, foot pegs, and wheelchair axles under both static and cyclic loads.
  • Achieving multi-axis loading: Accurately modeling the complex forces experienced in racing scenarios, especially for out-of-phase loading on handlebars.
  • Conducting endurance testing: Gathering accurate force vs. time data while simulating the grueling demands of actual races, where forces and accelerations vary unpredictably based on road conditions and athlete performance.
  • Accommodating diverse equipment: Providing a testing environment large enough to handle a wide range of sports gear, from bikes and wheelchairs to surfboards and beyond.

By partnering with ADMET, the innovation center sought solutions to these challenges, ensuring their new equipment could withstand the rigors of competition and deliver peak performance.

ADMET delivered an innovative solution to meet the center’s challenges, an advanced hydraulic test system optimized for their specific needs, featuring:

  • Dual vertical actuators with adjustable horizontal positioning and crosshead height: Precisely simulating forces from multiple directions.
  • Large baseplate: Accommodating large and bulky equipment.
  • Two MTESTQuattro controllers: Enabling automated, high-precision testing and real-time simulation of racing conditions via external signal which uses experimentally gathered data to control the test.
  • Static and Fatigue capabilities:  A robust steel frame rated for 50 kN and powerful actuators producing up to 14 kN of loads each at up to 600 in/min.

With this tailored solution, the sports innovation center can be confident in their ability to test an extremely diverse range of sporting equipment and components, helping to advance the state of the art in sporting technology.
