ASTM D4595 | Geotextiles | Tension Testing
ASTM D4595 is a testing standard for testingwide width geotextile specimens including woven fabrics, nonwoven fabrics, layeredfabrics, knit fabrics, and felts that are used for geotextileapplication. Wide width specimen may be prepared wet or dry. A Universal Testing Machine which can pull at a Constant Rate of Extension (CRE) is required as well as the necessary grips with wide-width jaws to secure the sample.

- Prepare the test specimens as described in the standard. The recommended specimen size per ASTM D4595 is 200 mm (8 in) wide by at least 200 mm (8 in) long.
- Secure both ends of the sample in grips that are sufficiently wide to grip the entire width of the sample.
- A slight preload may be applied to align the grips along a universal joint and remove slack.
- Begin the test by pulling at a Constant Rate of Extension specified in the standard.
- Stop the test once the sample has been ripped apart.
