ASTM D6746 | Rubber | Green Strength and Stress Relaxation Testing
ASTM D6746 covers the testing of tensile properties of Raw Rubber or Unvulcanized Compounds. The specification describes two test methods: A and B. Method A is for the measurement of tensile strength and modulus for Raw Rubber or Unvulcanized Compounds. Method B is for measurement of the stress relaxation characteristics of the same materials. If you are performing this test, you should read the entire specification from ASTM before you begin.
ASTM D6746 | Rubber | Green Strength and Stress Relaxation Testing
Part A
-
- Prepare the sample as specified in the standard.
- Load the sample into a pair of tensile grips suitable for the material being tested and attach an extensometer (if being used).
- Begin testing by separating the grips at the specified rate, continuing until the sample breaks.
Calculations:
- Maximum Tensile Stress
- Elongation at Break
- Stress at User-Specified Elongation
- Modulus of Elasticity
Part B
-
- Prepare the sample as specified in the standard.
- Load the sample into a pair of tensile grips suitable for the material being tested and attach an extensometer (if being used).
- Begin testing by separating the grips at the specified rate, continuing until the specified strain condition.
- Hold the position for the desired period of time.
Calculations:
- Maximum Force
- Maximum Stress
- Force after Decay
- Stress after Decay
- Percent Stress Decay (Optional)
