ASTM F2256 describes a position-controlled tensile test method to compare and characterize the strength of different types of tissue adhesives used on soft tissue to close wounds or surgically seal openings against leakage. The test method utilizes a tensile testing system configured with appropriate grips and grafts of frozen or split pig skin so that manufacturers can evaluate the T-Peel adhesive strength of tissue adhesives via a position-control test.

- Follow the apparatus requirements for position-control testing.
- Prepare and condition the pig skin specimen and tissue adhesive according to the test procedure instructions.
- Cool the pig skin specimen if the test temperature is different from the conditioning temperature.
- Secure the specimen in the appropriate grips of the tensile test instrument.
- Apply a load to stretch the specimen at a constant rate according to the test procedure instructions.
- Continue stretching the specimen until failure is obtained.
- Plot load vs. displacement and record type of failure.
- Record adhesive and specimen identification used, amount and method of adhesive applied, bonding and number of specimens tested, and other measurements found in the report section of the test method.
