ISO 34-1 | Thermoplastic Rubber | Tension Testing
ISO 34-1 is a testing standard for measuring the tear strength of vulcanized or thermoplastic rubbers. This standard describes three different test methods based on specimen geometry as the value of tear strength obtained depends on the shape of the test specimen in addition to the testing speed and temperature. Method A outlines the test procedure using a trouser test piece, method B using an angle test piece, and method C using a crescent test piece.

- Cut and prepare samples as described in the standard. Measure the thickness of the specimen and load it into your tensile grips.
- Begin grip separation at a rate defined in the standard for each method.
- Stop the test after sample break (rupture).
- Record the maximum force for crescent and angle test specimens. For trouser specimens, record the force continuously during rupture.
