When a manufacturer launches a product, the quality and durability of such an item is of the utmost importance. For instance, the wheels of a car must withstand years of being out on rocky roads. Tapes and adhesives also need to encompass enough strength to hold up for long periods of time. Mattresses that are used every night may need to survive ten years of usage.
ADMET offers systems for testing the durability and fatigue properties of a variety of different materials. As such, ADMET serves many distinct industries. Automotive and manufacturing sectors, for example, have a vital need for testing foam substances.
ADMET fatigue testing systems measure how a product degrades over time and determines the durability of the specimen. Our machines conduct tests by measuring the force put onto the substance over an unlimited number of cycles until the specimen ruptures.
The eXpert 3900 Series can perform static and fatigue tests to determine the tensile and compression qualities of foam through thousands of cycles. The system can also conduct elongation, tear and indentation force deflection tests on memory foam.
In addition, the eXpert 5900 Series Fatigue Testing Systems are relevant for the foam industry as well as the biomedical, film, adhesives, and textiles markets. These machines exceed ASTM and ISO accuracy standards while meeting the needs of consumers. The eXpert 5900 Series are essentially tabletop machines that incorporate quick motion to signify a fatigued environment.
Sector Applications – Mini Case Studies
A number of sectors choose ADMET for three main reasons: the flexibility to build customized systems, ability to deliver accurate and cost-effective solutions, and, finally, our ease of use for end users. ADMET has recently sold systems to a manufacturer of foam construction, a university laboratory, and a technology company specializing in flexible circuit boards. All these customers in disparate industries acquired fatigue testing machines to conduct ASTM and ISO procedures on their products and materials.
The university was building a new laboratory and needed fatigue testing for generic means, such as dynamic bend, compression, and tension testing. The testing machine purchased from ADMET was the eXpert 5900 Series. The foam manufacturer needed specifically a fatigue compression testing machine and also chose the 5900 Series. Some other accessories purchased by these customers were fixtures, vise grips, and platens.
The nearly 30-year-old technology company MFLEX purchased the eXpert 3910 Series to test their flexible circuit boards, which are found in cell phones, laptops, and other machinery. The global flexible circuit manufacturer controls six plants and has found the fatigue testing machine beneficial for improving its products and satisfying consumer expectations.
This company obtained what they needed from their fatigue testing – the flexible circuit boards were able to withstand 200,000 cycles before failure. ADMET materials testing machines worked well for these organizations due to our cost-effective, accurate, and customizable features.
Many medical companies have acquired ADMET’s fatigue systems, such as the hydraulic fatigue testing machine. Even a business that produces dog toys has obtained a fatigue testing system to determine how long the chew toys will last after purchase.
Lexington, MA-based TIAX, a technology development laboratory company, purchased the eXpert 5900 Series from ADMET, which has a loading frequency up to 10 Hz. The system is capable of conducting tests according to ASTM F384, ASTM F1717, and ASTM D3574, which determine the durability of orthopedic fracture fixation devices, spinal implants, and flexible cellular materials.
The engineering department at the University of Vermont obtained an axial torsion fatigue system from ADMET in order to determine the durability of concrete, biomedical devices, and other materials. The organization also purchased manual vise grips and the PC-based MTESTQuattro software controller for data analysis and reporting.
ADMET’s New Product Development
Currently, the engineering team at ADMET is developing a low-cycle speed fatigue testing machine. The cyclic testing is performed at 1 Hz. The system will have a low force of 45 N along with high resolution and position control. Our engineers are always working on new systems to meet the materials testing demands of our customers.
